Stephanie van Loon was born and raised in California. She moved to Hawaii in 1996 where she worked in a number of restaurants. She decided she wanted to make her cooking hobby a profession so she moved to San Francisco to attend the California Culinary Academy. Upon graduation, Stephanie worked with wedding cake designer Susan Morgan of Elegant Cheesecakes in Half Moon Bay, California. This experience sharpened her attention to detail and love of creating edible art. Stephanie moved back to Honolulu and worked for many great local chefs including Alan Wong, where she then decided it was time to open her own company. In 2005 Love at First Bite was born.

I started Sunshines Cake Creations in culinary school as a dream and now living in Hawaii I made my dream reality. I moved to Hawaii in 2004 with nothing but some money in my pocket. No friends, no family nowhere to live and no return ticket to Philadelphia. I was lucky enough to stay in a house with some great people who helped me along the way. I got a job with the military making pastries and then it happened, I met my husband and my life changed from there. After being together for a year we started our business and I have not looked back. I am very lucky to have moved here on a whim one day. My advice is to always follow your heart! I graduated from the Philadelphia Restaurant School in 1997. I worked for The Ritz Carlton Hotel, The St regis which then turned in to the Westin. I then went onto Frenh Based Hotel Sofitel-Philadelphia. I was then certified in viennoise pastries, boulangerie from Lenotre. And the I decided to make the move to Hawaii. I love to describe my cakes as Simple elegance meets funky out of the box thinking!

The Carl and Florence Bayer House, which was placed on the Hawaii Register of Historic Places, is an early and excellent example of the simple Craftsman style homes designed by renowned architect Raymond Llewellen Morris of Lewers & Cooke.
Built in 1936, it was a collaborative effort between Raymond Morris and Florence Bayer. The house incorporates the graceful characteristics of the simple Hawaiian style house popularized by Morris during this period with its high-pitched roof, extended eaves and lanai, as well as the design aspects of a French farmhouse.
Take H1 heading East. H1 turns into Kalanianaole Highway. Go past Aina Haina Shopping Center and Trans-Pacific Hawaii College. The Bayer Estate is on the Makai (ocean) side of the Highway, directly across East Hind Drive, and one driveway before Calvary-By-the-Sea Lutheran Church.
